📊 Reality Check

College Cut-offs & Quota Reality

Understanding Cut-offs

  • Number of applicants
  • Seats available
  • Previous year trends
  • College reputation

Cut-offs change every year. Last year's cut-off is just indicative, not guaranteed.

Reservation policy allocates seats to different categories. Cut-offs are determined by the lowest rank that got admission in each category last year.

Yes! If fewer students apply or paper is tough, cut-offs drop. If more students apply or paper is easy, cut-offs rise. Never assume based on past years.

📊 Reservation Structure (Central Institutions)

SC 15%
ST 7.5%
OBC (NCL) 27%
EWS 10%
General 40.5%

State institutions have different reservation policies.

⚠️ Know the Truth

Management Quota Truth

What is Management Quota?

Private and deemed universities can fill a portion of seats through management quota — typically 15-30% of seats. This is legal if done through proper channels.

✅ Legal Management Quota

  • Transparent fee structure on website
  • Proper admission letter from university
  • Receipt for all payments
  • Same degree as merit students

🚩 Illegal "Donation" Scams

  • "Pay ₹X lakh for guaranteed seat" through agents
  • Cash payments with no receipts
  • "Capitation fee" in addition to published fees
  • Agent claims to have "setting" with college
🔍 How to Verify
  1. Check fee structure on college's official website
  2. Apply through college's official admission portal
  3. All payments via bank to college account
  4. Get proper receipt for every rupee paid

Refund & Cancellation Traps

UGC/AICTE Refund Rules

As per UGC guidelines, institutions MUST follow this refund policy:

Before admission 100% refund (except nominal processing fee)
15 days after admission 100% refund of fees
16-30 days 80% refund
After 30 days 50% refund

🚩 Common Refund Traps

  • "No refund under any circumstance" (Illegal for regulated courses)
  • Deducting more than allowed by UGC
  • "Processing fee" of ₹50,000+ (Unreasonable)
  • Delaying refund for months/years

💡 Protect Yourself

  • Read refund policy BEFORE paying
  • Keep all receipts and admission letters
  • Apply in writing for cancellation
  • Escalate to AICTE/UGC if refund denied
